Does your Kanata home have fire insurance?

Recent news reports about the fires have indicated that some unit inhabitants did not have insurance on either their homes or the contents of their units.
If you are a Kanata homeowner with a mortgage, it is a requirement of your mortgage company to have fire insurance coverage.
If you are a Kanata homeowner without a mortgage, your do not have a requirement by your mortgage company to have fire insurance coverage, however, it you have a loss due to a fire, your home will not be replaced.
If you are a tenant and renting a unit or a home, are you required to have contents insurance for your furniture and other personal belongings? The answer is yes. Depending on whether or not your home is a single family home, or a condominium, your landlord or condominium corporation is responsible for insurance that will cover the exterior of the building and the inside walls of your unit. The tenant is responsible for insurance coverage on the contents of the home or unit.
